A strong, compact, well-proportioned working dog, loving and zealous in his work. The combination of strength, power, balance and muscularity should give the impression of mobility, strength and tenacity. Any tendency toward coarseness of build or untidiness is considered a serious defect.

The length of the body (measured from the anterior projection of the sternum to the sciatic tubercles) is greater than the height at the withers - approximately 10 : 9

Any peculiarities of behavior or structure atypical for a working dog are considered as a serious defect. The very name of the breed reveals its main functions, in which it has no equal. Control and ferrying of livestock, both in open and restricted areas. Always vigilant, extremely intelligent, cautious, brave. A dog that can be relied upon for everything and will obey commands with incredible loyalty. All these qualities make it an ideal working dog.

The head is strong, consistent with the dog's proportions and overall build.
CRANIAL PART:
Skull: Broad, slightly convex between the ears.
Transition from forehead to muzzle: Towards the muzzle the cranial part is flatter, but the transition is well defined.
LEFT PART:
Nose: The nose lobe is black.
Muzzle: Broad, well filled under the eyes; medium length, deep, powerful, gradually narrowing towards the nasal lobe; upper longitudinal lines of the cranial part and muzzle parallel.
Lips: Dense and dry.
Jaws/Teeth: Strong, deep, lower jaw well developed. The teeth are healthy, strong, evenly set; scissor bite - when the jaws are clamped together, the incisors of the lower jaw have their front sides adjacent to the back side of the upper jaw incisors. Since the dog needs to manage the herd by following the cows and to drive them by biting their legs, healthy and strong teeth are very important in this breed.
Cheekbones: Well muscled, but not rough or protruding.
Eyes: Oval-shaped, medium-sized, not bulging or deep-set, expressing intelligence and alertness. When approaching strangers, the expression of the eyes becomes warning and suspicious. Eyes dark brown.
Ears: Medium size, rather small than large, wide at the base, dense, erect, moderately pointed, not rounded or bat-like. The ears are widely spaced, turned out to the sides, and stand erect when the dog is alert. The canvas of the ears is thick. The inside of the ears is covered with thick fur.
Neck: Exceptionally strong, muscular, of medium length, extending to the base, without suspension.

BODY:
Top line: Smooth.
Back: Strong, firm.
Lumbar: Broad, strong, muscular; the dog is very solidly built.
Croup: Sufficiently long and sloping.
Chest: Deep, muscular, moderately broad. The ribs are rounded, but the chest is not “barrel-shaped”.
Bottom line/stomach: The groin is deep.
TAIL: Moderately low set, continues the sloping croup line; reaches approximately to the knuckle joints. At rest it is lowered and slightly arched. When moving or excited it may be raised upward, but never any part of the tail should cross a vertical line drawn through the base of the tail.
The tail ends in a well defined “brush”.

FORELIMBS:
General view: When viewed from the front, the forelimbs are straight and parallel, the bones of the
forearm bones strong, rounded, down to the paws.
Scapulae: Strong, obliquely set, well muscled, firmly articulated with the humerus; at the withers the ends of the scapulae should not be too close together. In spite of well-developed scapular musculature and natural strength of bone, overly loaded scapulae and a heavy front will hinder the proper movement of the dog and limit its efficiency and endurance.
Heels: When viewed from the side, with a slight slope to allow for plasticity of movement.
Forelegs: Rounded; toes short, strong, vaulted and collected. The pads are stiff and thick, the claws short and strong.
HIND LIMBS:
General appearance: Broad, strong, muscular. When viewed from behind, the limbs are straight and parallel, not narrow or too wide, from the hindquarters to the paws.
Hips: Long, broad, well developed. Knee Joints (Knees): With well defined angles.
Hock joints: Strong, with well defined angles.
Hind feet: Rounded; toes short, strong, vaulted and collected. The pads are hard and thick, the claws short and strong.

The movements are free, plastic, tireless and balanced. The movement of the front part occurs in unison with a strong push of the rear part. Important is the ability for fast and impetuous movements. At the trot, with increasing speed, the limbs approach the midline, but in the stance the paws are arranged in a rectangle.

Coat: Smooth, double, with short dense undercoat. The body hair is straight, coarse, close-fitting, waterproof. In the lower part of the body towards the hind limbs the coat lengthens and forms small tufts on the thighs. The hair is short on the head (including the inside of the ears) and the front part of the limbs. Along the neck the hair is thicker and longer. Too long or too short hair is considered a defect. On average, the body hair should be 2.5 - 4 cm.
Color: Blue mottled: The color should be blue, blue or blue mottled with or without markings. Black, blue or yellowish red markings on the head are acceptable, preferably symmetrical. The red underparts on the forelimbs join the underparts on the chest and throat. On the throat the undercoat passes into undercoats on the cheekbones; the undercoat on the hind limbs begins on the inside of the thighs, descends to the knee joints and from them extends along the metatarsals up to and including the toes. Pale undercoat on the body is acceptable, if it does not show through the blue point coat. Black markings on the body are not desirable.
Red-red: The color should be rich everywhere, including the undercoat (no white or cream), with or without dark red markings on the head. Markings on the head are desirable. Dark red markings on the body are not desirable but are acceptable.
